Wolfman: A Layman’s Review *(Spoiler Alert)*
So Wolfman has taken a relative beating from movie reviewers in several publications I have come across. Some have said the storyline has holes in it, or that the scenes of violence should elicit laughter from the audience rather than distress.
Nonsense. What a cool Gothic setting for the movie. The background remains spooky for duration of the film. Benicio Del Toro was great- how his body transforms from man to werewolf is an awesome scene, as well as when he screams out “I will kill all of you” to the non-believers who were seated in the meeting hall.
Sure, it may not be a 4 star thriller, but I don’t think Wolfman deserves all the venom it received from reviewers. I’m sure if it was a movie about a girl with no arms who grows up in foster care only to become a Senator these same schlubs would be fawning over it. Too bad they can’t recognize a solid horror flick when it is playing on a big screen right in front of them.

As I have mentioned in the article, “Who Is More Superficial: Hollywood or Bollywood”, good Bollywood movies come out once in a blue moon. Well this past Christmas, the blue moon was out when the movie 3 Idiots was released. I watched the movie and I can honestly say that it was one of the best movies I have seen this year, Hollywood or Bollywood. I recently saw the highly acclaimed movie Avatar, and aside from the amazing special effects, the movie wasn’t very exciting and was way too long at over two and half hours. 3 Idiots was also over two and half hours, but the plot of the movie was very invigorating and emotional, plus the acting was superb. When you compare 3 Idiots and Avatar, I think that Hollywood holds the superficial title for substituting an enticing story for mind blowing special effects.
3 Idiots is a movie that takes place at an engineering college. Aamir Khan plays the lead role as a student who challenges the teaching system of the college. He claims that memorizing text book definitions and concepts is useless if you can not explain it in simple terms which anyone could understand. He sharply criticizes the pressure that the college puts on its students and the stress that incurs upon them. In the movie, one student commits suicide due to the pressure that was put upon him to keep up with deadlines, despite the fact his father was in poor health. The character that plays Aamir Khan also encourages his two roommates and good friends to follow their heart and do what makes them happy. Both friends were under great pressure from their family to be successful and get rich, due the poor economic status of both families. With the help of Aamir Khan, they both realized the best way to keep their families happy was to show them that they themselves were happy and grateful for what their families have done for them.
The movie 3 Idiots was a very heart warming film that touches on very sensitive subjects, especially in the Indian community. The catch phrase of the film “All Izz Well” signified the importance of being happy and never letting stress get the best of you. The movie displayed a great bond of friendship and the positive influence that friends can make on each others lives. The importance of making your family happy through your own happiness is shown in the movie as well. I must admit, I did shed a tear watching the movie. 3 Idiots wasn’t just an entertaining movie, but a movie that celebrates the great things in life that we take for granted, such as friends, family, and happiness. That might sound like a cliché movie with a happy ending, but 3 Idiots had a unique and touching way of showing it.
